Operation
SOS has completed the 6th Annual Holidays for Heroes project. On October
27th,2007, at the US Army Reserve Center in Hays, Kansas, over 200 people
came to pack 1000 boxes to send overseas for the holidays. People of all
ages were involved in everything from pre-packing items into plastic bags,
to filling out custom forms and labels, packing the boxes and getting them
into the truck to take to the Post Office.
People in northwest Kansas generously donated items to fill the boxes. Funds
for postage came from all over the United States. Children in 15 school
districts in three states colored Christmas greetings to be included in the
packages. Since its inception in 2002, Operation SOS has sent almost
9000 care packages weighing in at just under 48tons to soldiers, sailors,
airmen and marines, serving in 6 countries in the Middle East.
Again we are grateful for everyone's gift of time, money and patriotic
spirit to make this project a success. |
